JOHN NIXON

EXECUTIVE PASTOR

John Nixon began serving on staff at North Park in July of 2010 and has served local churches in the Grand Rapids area for more than thirty-five years. He loves people and has a passion to see them develop an authentic relationship with God and his church. He received his education at Clearwater Christian College in Florida and at Grand Rapids Theological Seminary.

After 32 years of marriage, his first wife passed away from breast cancer. He remarried in 2023 to Brenda who had lost her husband to cancer after being married for 34 years. Together they now have 12 adult kids and 33 grandkids which are a tremendous blessing. The Nixons enjoy hangin’ out, playing board/card games, taking trips, playing pickleball and generally laughing a lot.

WHY DID YOU FIRST COME TO NORTH PARK?

I came to join the pastoral staff and found a place where people are accepted and encouraged, and where they can grow in their faith as Christ-followers. I have come to love it here!

WHAT PLACE WOULD YOU LIKE TO VISIT BEFORE YOU DIE?

Boston – I have been a Boston Celtics fan since junior high and would love to see them play a home game and then get a burger at Wahlburgers.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE SEASON?

Fall – cool evenings, football games, hay rides, hot apple cider, and handing out candy to trick or treaters in the neighborhood—what could be better?
